Need of more focus on girl empowerment

In the past month we have celebrated national girl child day. The day was an initiative of the ministry of women and child development. It was inaugurated with the objective to provide support and opportunities to the girls of India. It also aims towards promoting awareness about the rights of the girl child and to increase awareness on the importance of girl education, and their health and nutrition.

Starting from female infanticide to gender inequality to sexual abuse, there is no dearth of issues. The main objective behind empowering girl child mission is to highlight the inequalities faced by girls, to promote awareness including the rights of a girl child, the importance of education, health, and nutrition. Nowadays also gender discrimination is a major problem that girls or women face throughout their life.

We should start the initiative from our doorstep. Choose a girl and make her too strong that she can make her own decisions, can make choices with better skills, esteem, power and self capabilities. In the 21st century it is very sadful to say that women have to fight for their own rights still in this technology advanced world. Any development initiates from education and hence positive thinking capacity. Education doesn’t imply only basic education, higher education is also very essential for their life improvement.

Providing quality education with skill development in a safe environment is still an unreached goal. Limitations on women’s mobility, lack of property ownership and enforcement of laws related to girls and women, unrecognised and unpaid work, unequal wages, multiple forms of violence against women, lack of many safe and secure options to work, all of these are key socio-cultural constraints preventing women from working.

Get connected with our mission of empowering girl child

So it’s better to talk about future action rather than history of lack of empowerment. We should take some measured steps in this area for better results.

1)    Provide them a better life with clean and sanitized water.

2)    Teach girls importance of hygiene from childhood for their best physical development

3)    Millions of girls are subjected to abuse, child labor, trafficking, child marriage, and other offenses. Your gift will go where it’s needed most, protecting girls and women by equipping skilled, local staff to offer training, education, counseling, medical care, small business loans, and other programs that reach women and girls as well as boys — helping to end cycles of gender-based violence.

4)    Help them to start a small business or best way of earning that make them independent and liable.

5)    Most important thing is to encourage women and support them at every step. Girls pass through different life stages and wear a new responsibility. Whether being married or being mom they should be encouraged to progress and excel in their career.
